Party photos: capturing your murder mystery evening

Published on 27 October 2026

A murder mystery party is an evening people talk about for a long time. Photos keep the fun going: the outfits, the faces during questioning, the look on the killer's face when unmasked. Here is how to get them right without breaking the pace of the game.

1. The suspects' photo, before the crime

This is the must-have photo. Before the investigation starts, gather all the players in their outfits, like a family photo at the party. Nobody knows yet who is guilty: the photo will take on its full meaning at the end.

Tip: ask everyone to strike their character's pose. The upright pillar of the community, the hostess with her glass, the traveller slightly apart.

2. "Police file" portraits

A plain wall, a sheet with the character's name, one photo from the front and one in profile. It is funny, quick, and exactly the kind of picture people share afterwards. Do it during the welcome while the others arrive.

3. During the investigation: stay discreet

During questioning, avoid flash and posed shots: they cut conversations short. Instead, ask a volunteer to take a few candid photos, without flash.

4. The final reveal

When the host reads the solution, the reactions are often the best of the night. If you want to capture them, film that moment rather than photographing it.

5. The killer's photo

Once the truth is out, one last photo: the killer in the middle, the detectives around. Those who got it right can hold up their accusation sheet.

Respect everyone

Ask before posting photos on social media. Not everyone wants to appear online, even dressed up.

Afterwards

A shared album of the evening's photos, and that is often when the urge to play again begins. Our cases have very different worlds: a true-crime story in a grand French house with The Vernier Case, a harvest night in Galicia with La Queimada du Pazo. For outfits, read how to dress as your character.
