Why murder mystery is perfect for 31 December

• It fills the hours before midnight: three hours of investigation is exactly the length of dinner.
• Everyone is already dressed up: evening wear suits the characters.
• It brings different groups together: friends, couples, newcomers.

The right timing

Plan the game so the final reveal lands just before midnight:

1. 8.30 pm: welcome, character introductions, act I.
2. 9.30 pm: act II, during the main course.
3. 10.45 pm: act III and revelations.
4. 11.30 pm: final accusation.
5. 11.50 pm: reading the solution.
6. Midnight: raise a glass to the new year... and to the unmasked killer.

Which case to choose?

• The Vernier Case starts with a big party in a grand house, with champagne and lanterns. The New Year mood fits perfectly. 6 to 12 players.
• La Queimada du Pazo includes a scene at exactly midnight: lights out, one candle, an incantation. Matching it to the real midnight is tempting, but careful: it happens in the middle of the investigation, not at the end. Better to keep the real midnight for the reveal.
